Alecias Cinnamon Rolls


Ingredients:

Main:
  • 4 2/3 cups plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 60 gms butter melted
  • 1/2 cup caster sugar
  • 1 TBsp yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups milk lukewarm
  • 1 egg
Filling:
  • 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 2 TBsp cinnamon
  • 150 gms butter softened
Icing:
  • 1 1/4 cup icing sugar sifted
  • 2 TBsp maple syrup
  • 2 TBsp milk

Instructions:

Main:
  1. In a large bowl add flour and salt.
  2. Stir in sugar and yeast, then make a well in centre and add milk, butter and egg.
  3. Stir gradually until soft dough forms.
  4. Remove from bowl and knead on lightly floured surface for 5 minutes.
  5. Cover dough and let rest for 10 minutes.
  6. Meanwhile prepare your Dutch oven by placing a trivet in the base.
  7. Alternatively line a slow cooker with baking paper.
  8. Mix filling ingredients until combined, then set aside.
  9. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface until it is about 20x15cm.
  10. Spread out filling over dough, then roll it into log shape.
  11. Cut log evenly into 10 pieces and place in greased cake tin or in slow cooker with the swirl side facing up.
  12. Cook with lid on slow oven, on high setting for 2 hours.
  13. If using Dutch oven place cake tin on trivet and place in Dutch oven with lid on, for 2 hours on moderate oven.
  14. Remove from oven and drizzle the top once partially cooled, combined icing sugar, maple syrup and milk.
